How to Enable the Windows Search Bar

Windows Search Bar

The Windows search bar is a great tool to find files, apps, and internet results faster on your computer. By enabling it, you can search directly from the taskbar.

Although the method for activating the search bar is slightly different in Windows 10 and Windows 11, it works the same: just type a term in the visible box to find a result. If you no longer want to see the search bar, you can hide it again.

So, here’s how to do it:

How to Enable the Search Bar in Windows 10

  1. Right-click on the taskbar;
  2. Select “Search“;
  3. Click “Show Search Box“.

If the search box is not displayed, right-click and select the “Taskbar Settings” option. Make sure the toggle for “Use small taskbar buttons” is turned off and the taskbar location in the list of screens is selected as “Bottom”.

  1. Right-click on the taskbar;
  2. Select “Search“;
  3. Click “Hide“.

How to Enable in Windows 11

  1. Click with the right mouse button;
  2. Select the option “Taskbar Settings“;
  3. Under ‘Taskbar Items‘, enable the option to ‘Search‘.

hide the search bar

To disable the search bar in Windows 11, just go back to the steps above and disable the “Search” option. Keep in mind that you can still do searches from the Start menu.
