1. Avoid using public networks
Public Wi-Fi networks are accessed by many people and it’s hard to know if there’s someone malicious among them. In addition to keeping your TikTok account safe, avoiding connecting to open networks also protects profiles on other social networks and your phone as a whole.
2. Two-Step Authentication
Many social networks allow you to apply an extra layer of security with two-step authentication and TikTok is no different from that; know-how:
- Open the TikTok app and tap “Profile” in the bottom right corner;
- Tap the three-line icon in the top right corner and go to “Settings and Privacy“;
- In the “Account” section, enter “Security“;
- Choose “Two-Step Verification” and choose two verification methods;
- Follow the onscreen steps to complete.
3. Configure your privacy
By default, TikTok accounts are public, but you can change this and allow only approved users to access your content.
- Access the configuration and privacy options;
- Next, tap “Privacy” and under “Discoverability“, check the “Private Account” option.
4. Remove your profile from account suggestions
Another privacy option you can take is to restrict profile suggestions and prevent others from finding your account. This adjustment is indicated for those who seek protection and privacy — content creators can lose reach with this option.
- Access TikTok’s privacy settings;
- Go to “Suggest my account to others“;
- Disable options to complete.
With these tweaks and precautions, you can protect your TikTok account from potential intruders.
