At IFA, Qualcomm announced a partnership with Bose and Meta. Two companies working to advance the future of smart headphones and the metaverse, respectively.
At IFA 2022, Qualcomm announced two deals to work together. The first one was with Bose, a well-known company that makes audio equipment. The second is with Meta, the company that owns Facebook and is putting a lot of effort into making the metaverse right now.
The agreement between Bose and Qualcomm means that the Qualcomm S5 SoC, which was released at the beginning of the year, will be in the next products from the audio company. This chip promises to improve audio quality, connectivity, and even latency, which is an important factor in areas like gaming.
The Qualcomm S5 also allows for better active noise cancellation, thanks to the third generation of Qualcomm Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation. Also, better treatment of the signal picked up by the microphones, which means clearer audio. All of this is done using as little power as possible to give the best battery life. It is based on the latest Bluetooth standards, Bluetooth 5.3 and Bluetooth LE.
During the opening keynote of IFA 2022, Lila Snyder, CEO of Bose, said, “Our engineers work together all the time.” She was talking about how close both companies plan to work together to make new products.
Qualcomm keeps growing thanks to deals with Meta and Bose
The deal with Meta, means that Qualcomm will be the company’s main partner in making new VR/AR products. The two businesses previously partnered on the Meta Quest 2. However, “this deal solidifies our shared commitment to produce top VR devices and experiences for years to come.”
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, said, “We are working with Qualcomm on custom virtual reality chips for future Quest products. These chips will be powered by the Snapdragon XR platform and technology.” “Building virtual reality is different from making a mobile phone because it has new challenges in computing space, cost, and form factors. These chips will help us keep pushing the limits of virtual reality and give people amazing experiences.”
